Harmony Farm Connects with Local Food Projects

December 9, 2009

Harmony Farm had the amazing opportunity to connect with The Miami Rivers Food Project. Our recent achievement of organic certification and desire to sell produce and herbs locally, created common grounds for discussion this fall with Laura Hanson and Laurie Winans Reiser, two of the organizers. The Miami Rivers Food Project’s aim is “to create a local market for the foods our local farmers make.”

On Tuesday, December 7th, we shared a meal with organizers, Laura Hanson and Jake Schlachter as well as Milan Pajev and his family. Milan and his wife Tanya started the Happy Box CSA program at Fulton Farms in 2004. The Happy Box is a community supported agriculture program that aims to make healthy, organic, homegrown produce more accessible to families in the Miami Valley.

Our gathering on Tuesday was an opportunity to network with our neighbor farmers, and share information and ideas. It is wonderful to know we have local support and the opportunity to work together for the benefit of our community.
