What is a Locavore?

A locavore is a person who eats food that has been grown in their own backyard or in the same region. The Dayton area has at least 21 farmers’ markets that can provide us with the basic vegetables and fruits we are trying to eat more of, in addition, you will find flowers, locally grown meats and fish and maybe even a batch of muffins!


Man is it Hot!

As the cool and unusually wet Spring days of April/ May start giving way to the sticky heat of high summer, I find myself thinking about the bounty of plants available to help keep my family, friends and clients in ‘balance’ with the season. Plants that help cool the body, ease the itching of summer bites or rashes, relieve parched throats, and relax the nervous system. There are several abundant options locally available to those of us in the Midwest and we will explore just a few of them.

Remo Drum Company did a research study a few years ago, testing people after 1 hour of continuous rhythmic drumming and found that their number of killer T-cells had increased greatly. Drumming strengthens the immune system and just makes you feel good!
